Four teams are set to represent the country in the FEASSSA games set for Huye, Rwanda from 17 to 27 August.
For the first time in the last five editions of the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national games, a new champion for girls' volleyball had been crowned.
On their second appearance at the national championship, Kitale's Kesogon girls have managed to dethrone African, East Africa, and national champions Kwanthanze in a thrilling final played on Saturday 12 August morning.
In the highly-publicised and awaited final, the Justin Kigwari-coached Kwanthanze were seen as favourites given that they had won the African title earlier this year.
Kesogon, however, had other ideas and rallied behind the huge crowd that was urging them on to pick the first set 25-19.
The Gilbert Kaisha-led Rift Valley side had shown their intent early and it was Kigwari's turn to respond.
Having beaten Kesogon twice last year at the national and FEASSSA games, Kwanthanze managed to silence their opponents in the second set picking an easy 25-15 win to level matters.
At the changeover, the 2022 silver medalists regained their composure and fought for a 25-22 third set to reclaim their lead.
The final (4th) set was no different as Kesogon emerged as the stronger side especially on reception, capitalising on Kwanthanze's mistakes to stretch their lead and go on to win the set and the match 3-1.
